Unwatered Spots

Unwatered Spots
Last week, I shared how neighborhood sprinklers in the heat had me thinking about my need for daily spiritual drenching.
Well, it’s still hot, and now I’ve noticed something else on my daily walk: not everyone has their sprinklers adjusted to hit every part of their lawn. I see brown spots in corners, dead shrubs here and there.
The homeowners have irrigation and run it faithfully. But they’ve allowed some areas to remain outside the water’s reach. As the dog days of summer drag on, the unwatered spots are becoming increasingly obvious.
I asked the Lord if there are similar spots in my spiritual life. I was mentally reviewing “areas” like finances and friendships, but the answer He brought to mind was more convicting: Evenings.
It’s not that I deliberately put my evenings out of God’s reach. I’m just tired. TV and Wordle seem to be all I can manage.
But what if I made a more conscious effort to listen for God walking “at the cool of the day” (Genesis 3:8)? Scripture reminds me that God built both morning and evening rhythms into His people’s worship (Exodus 29:38–39; 30:7–8).
What might God cultivate with my evenings if I turned on the living water—rather than the TV? If I allowed Him to lead my tired mind beside His still waters (Psalm 23:2)?
“It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening” (Psalm 92:2).
