The Turning Point
Trying to stay ahead of the fast-falling snow, I fired up the snowblower in the middle of last week’s blizzard. I hadn’t planned to clear the entire driveway. The town plows would only bury the entrance again when they rolled through. But something kept me going all the way to the street, even while thinking, “This is pointless.”
I had just carved a wide opening at the end of the drive when a car came slithering down the road. It fishtailed and slid into a drift just beyond me. The road ahead was impassable. I motioned for them to back up and turn around in the space I’d just cleared, but their tires only spun.
“Hold on!” I called, snowblowing a path right down the road to the car. Minutes later, they were free — grateful for this miraculous turnaround in an endless sea of white.
Suddenly, the work I had considered worthless became someone else’s way out. My spirits lifted, and I eagerly cleared even more room for drivers in need.
What a great picture of Christian service. Scripture calls us to work enthusiastically for the Lord, and assures us that nothing we do for Him is ever useless (1 Corinthians 15:58).
Our small acts can feel invisible — disconnected from any outcome we can see. But God has a way of putting our ordinary efforts to extraordinary use.
What we dismiss as pointless just may become someone else’s turning point.
