What’s on Your Lock Screen?
My wife and I recently attended a get-to-know-you gathering of couples from our church. One of the icebreakers was simple: show us the image you use as your phone’s lock screen.
As we went around the room, couple after couple held up tender pictures of spouses, children, and meaningful moments together. When it came to us, we both sheepishly revealed images, not of each other or our kids… but of our dogs!
We laughed at ourselves along with everyone else, but later I smiled, realizing we hadn’t coordinated that decision. We’d simply chosen the same familiar comfort to brighten our days.
C.S. Lewis once observed that friendship is born at the moment one person says to another, “What? You too?” When two people find joy in the same small things, it knits their hearts together. In fact, the gospel itself is an invitation into shared joy. Jesus said, “You will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow” (John 15:11).
Our capacity for delight—even in our dogs—reflects the character of a God who rejoices over His people (Zephaniah 3:17). Sometimes the smallest shared smiles remind us that we were created for communion — with one another and with Him.
What’s on your lock screen today? Let it remind you of the joy God has woven into your life.
