The Game’s Not Over
Nine years ago, the football world witnessed one of the most memorable games ever. The New England Patriots turned a seemingly hopeless situation into the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history.
The hoopla here in the Northeast was inescapable, but a neighbor of mine oddly cringed when I mentioned the game. He explained, “The Pats were so far behind! I didn’t want to see them lose, so I changed the channel and dozed off.”
He woke up an hour later to his phone buzzing madly. Every message said the same thing: the Patriots had won! He had missed the whole comeback.
I commiserated with him and thought about how easily that can happen on a spiritual level.
We know God can do the impossible, but when circumstances look bleak, discouragement can set in quickly. Maybe it’s a struggling marriage, a difficult job, or a strained relationship. Disappointment drains our resolve. We lose hope and “change the channel” — assuming the outcome has already been decided.
But with God, the game is not over. Job 42:2 says, “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you.”
He’s still on the field, still writing the story, and still capable of a comeback no one saw coming. Faith keeps us watching, so stay tuned. The final score may look very different than you expect.
