Auto Care
I’m sitting in the Midas waiting room right now while my car gets an oil change.
A small TV hangs in the corner, offering a random talk show on a fuzzy screen. A dying plant by the door shudders in the frigid air whenever someone comes or goes. The smell of tires and stale coffee lingers, and the muffled clatter of tools seeps through the glass wall.
We’ve all experienced a place like this, right?
What a contrast from the auto dealership down the road. Their sales lounge is sleek and spotless, with well-appointed furniture, lighting, and complimentary beverages — every detail exuding thoughtfulness and care.
It’s tempting to assume God sees things the same way: that His attention is drawn only to the inviting, the polished, the well-arranged. When the setting looks perfect, we think He must be near. But when things look utilitarian or worn down, He must be distant.
Scripture tells a different story. Psalm 139:8 says, “If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.”
God doesn’t withdraw from the mundane corners of life. He remains just as close in the noisy, ordinary, unimpressive moments as He does in the bright and beautiful ones.
Is there a place in your life where God feels distant right now? Take heart today: God isn’t dismayed by the décor. In every place, in every moment, He is present with us.
