The 3rd of July
The “3rd of July” just doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as the next day on the calendar. It’s like I can’t even imagine the founding fathers completing the Declaration of Independence on any other day than the 4th. It just sounds like the right day for the job.
Other names seem to fit perfectly with the things they describe. I mean, what would facial tissue or sticky first-aid strips be called if the terms “Kleenex” and “Band-Aid” were never introduced?
My dad, Dave Reid, was well known for years to his students as “Dr. Grace.” As a Bible college professor, my dad didn’t want anyone to fail — even if they deserved it. He encouraged struggling students. He found creative ways for them to use their spiritual gifts and interests to improve their grades. What an amazing picture of Christ’s love and grace toward us. Apart from Him, we’re all doomed to fail.
Matthew 5:16 says, “Let your light shine before others, that they might see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
I wonder if there’s a nickname that would fit me, based on the aspect of God’s grace I project? How can I reflect Christ so that I might be known and remembered — even by name?
