The Sun is Still Shining
The forecast promised full sun for our beach vacation several years ago. Yet when we arrived, the shore sat under a thick haze. The sky was strangely dark and dull. The sun was shining, but smoke from distant Canadian wildfires dramatically dimmed its warmth and brightness.
That disappointment mirrors something many of us recognize in our day-to-day walk with Christ. We know Jesus’ presence does not come and go. He’s constant (Hebrews 13:8). And “…in him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5). But sometimes our days feel spiritually overcast. It’s not because His light has weakened. It’s because something has drifted between our hearts and that light. Unconfessed sin, spiritual neglect, weariness, distraction, or a lack of trust can act like smoke in the air, dimming His brightness to our eyes.
Fortunately, these things can never extinguish Christ Himself. We simply need to clear what blocks our view: confess known sins (1 John 1:9), cast off deeds of darkness, and “put on the armor of light” (Romans 13:12). When we walk in His light, darkness does not overtake us (John 12:35). In fact, we become “children of the light” (John 12:36).
If Christ feels distant today, don't doubt His presence. Instead, ask God to reveal what may be standing between you and Him.
