Rescued!
A few weeks ago, this headline caught my eye:
"Golden Retriever dramatically rescued after falling through the ice"
It was a heartwarming moment that quickly went viral nationwide. Maybe you saw it too.
But here’s what made the story really hit home: my wife and I quickly recognized the dog in the picture! We’ve known him since he was a puppy. He’s bounded and pranced joyfully through our yard many times, and his owner is a good friend of ours. Suddenly, this rescue took on a whole new meaning.
It reminded me how much perspective shifts when there’s a personal connection. To the world, this was just another dog. To our family, he’s a loving companion who knows us, our kids, and our home.
God desires this kind of personal connection with us. From a distance, we can rightly admire Him as Creator and ruler of all. But we can only experience the joy of knowing Him—and being known by Him—through a deeper personal relationship.
Jesus described it this way: “I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me” (John 10:14).
He’s not a distant, faceless Savior — He’s personal, attentive, and loving. As we spend time with Him in prayer and Scripture, we begin to recognize His voice and experience His love in ways the world can’t fully see (John 10:27).
Give thanks to the Lord today. A personal connection changes everything!
