Name That Verse!

When my kids were younger, they loved to test my musical knowledge with our own version of “Name That Tune.”  They were always amazed when I could identify a song after just a few notes.

It reminded me of a similar game I played with my dad when I was their age... but what he did was far more impressive.  I would flip open the Bible to any page and start reading. After just a verse or two, he could tell me exactly which book I was in. Often he could also name the chapter — and sometimes even the verse! (My mom was really good too, but Dad could edge her out in the Minor Prophets.)

What a gift to have that kind of command of Scripture.  Not to impress others, but to have God’s Word stored so deeply in your heart that you can draw from it at any moment.

Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” 

Whether you're a longtime student of the Bible or just beginning to find your way through its pages, make it a habit to memorize Scripture.  Like a familiar melody, those verses will come back to you exactly when you need them — guiding your steps in real time.

Today, start building a soundtrack of truth you can carry with you wherever you go.
