Jesus Take the Wheel
Jesus Take the Wheel
Lately the lane-sense feature on my car has been driving me crazy — those little nudges on the steering wheel that warn me I’m drifting. The thing is, most the time I know where I’m headed. I find myself banging the steering wheel and exclaiming, “I’m not drifting! I’m turning!” Yet the car keeps trying to correct me.
But the other day, right in the midst of my annoyance, a thought came to me: How often do I respond God’s guidance the same way, even though His intention is to keep me safe? How many times has the Spirit nudged me, only for me to bristle? I think I see the road clearly, but God sees dangers I can’t. But I “kick against the goads,” like Paul (Acts 26:14).
The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you” (Psalm 32:8). His guidance is never mechanical, never flawed, never mistimed. Although lane-sense can be overzealous, God’s nudges are perfectly calibrated to keep me on His pathway for life.
So today, when I feel that little tug on the steering wheel, I’m not turning it off. I’m choosing to let it remind me of something bigger: God’s loving corrections are not meant to annoy me. They’re meant to protect me.
