Riding the Current

Growing Daily

Riding the Current

It was a dazzling day at sea. Shimmering shades of sapphire and teal stretched to the horizon in every direction. Excited to be on our first cruise, my wife and I kicked off the day with some exercise, walking laps around the promenade deck.

As usual, I started my fitness app to track our data.  But when I checked my phone afterward, I was baffled.  There was no way we could have covered that much ground in so little time.

I shrugged it off, blaming the app and sketchy satellite coverage on the open ocean.  Then it hit me… the GPS wasn’t just measuring our walk around the deck—it was adding in the ship’s own progress beneath us!

It was a simple moment, but it pointed to something deeper. Sometimes our steps in prayer, service, or personal growth may feel routine or ineffective.  Yet even when it seems like we’re just walking in circles, God is moving the world beneath us, orchestrating circumstances and guiding us toward His planned destination.

Isaiah 55:8 reminds us that God’s plan far exceeds our understanding: “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.”

Lord, may we stay faithful in our daily walk with You. Even when our steps feel small or unnoticed, we know You are quietly moving beneath it all.
