Failure isn’t Final

Most of us kick off January with lofty resolutions, telling ourselves, “This year will be different! I will be better about ________!”

I mean… does anyone ever say, “Nah, I’m good—no changes needed”?

Sometimes these resolutions actually stick. But by mid-February, most of us have surrendered to the reality that there’s nothing magical about January 1st. That new diet, exercise plan, or vow to watch less TV?  Epic fail.

Of course, that failure isn’t final.  We’ll greet 1/1/2027 with the same optimism!

Some failures, however, run deeper and are far more serious than a broken New Year’s resolution. Maybe it feels like you’ve disappointed the Lord in an unforgivable way. Guilt and discouragement press heavily on your heart.  Or maybe an area of your walk with God is faltering so deeply that it feels hopeless to even set a resolution.

Thankfully, those failures aren’t final either. God can work through everything—even our mistakes—to draw us closer to Him. Failure can become an opportunity for God’s love and grace to shine (Read Psalm 103:8–14).

Think of the major mistakes in the lives of Moses, David, Jonah, Peter… yet they went on to do great things for the Lord. This year, don’t let your failures define you.  With God, new beginnings are always possible. Ask Him for a fresh start today.
