Grace, Forgotten and Unused
I broke my foot a couple of years ago. When it started aching this winter, I shrugged it off and told myself this was just part of life now. I lived with the limitation.
But the early spring days had me pulling warm-weather shoes out of the closet last week. To my surprise, I found the custom orthotic insoles I was supposed to be wearing every day to support the weak foot. I had completely forgotten to put them in my winter shoes… and limped along without support for an entire season.
It would be funny if it weren’t so absurd. It shocks me that I spent the time and money to get insoles but didn’t remember they existed—even when the ache should have reminded me!
I wonder how often I do the same thing spiritually. God has provided all the support I need. But I press on in my own strength, aching, assuming the struggle is just “how it is,” instead of reaching for the strength and promises He’s already given. I don’t need to resign myself to spiritual limping. But I do need to recall His truths.
“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life…” (2 Peter 1:3).
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
