What Would You Do with a Year's Salary?
What would you do with a year's salary if it were handed to you on top of your normal earnings? Buy a bigger house? Pay off debt? Splurge a little and save the rest?
Or what about a year's worth of time? If you could spend one year doing anything you wanted, what would you choose?
Mary of Bethany had a jar of perfume worth a year's wages. It was the kind of thing you saved, protected, maybe even passed down. Instead, she poured it out—all of it—on Jesus' feet (John 12:3). A lavish act of love. To some, it looked like waste. But Jesus received it as worship.
That story is hitting me hard today. Have I ever acted as lavishly? Sure, I’ve made donations and decisions for the sake of Christ that have cost me. But I’ve never poured out anything close to a year’s wages at Jesus’ feet in a one-time act of worship. I doubt I’ve done anything so radical that people would think I was “wasting” my time or talent.
What would wholehearted love for Christ move you to do? Together, let’s ask God for the opportunity—and the courage—to do it.
“…give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.” (Romans 12:1)
