The Request I Never Heard

You may not recognize the name Steve Morse, but he’s my all-time favorite guitarist.

When his signature model guitar was released many years ago, it had all the features I wanted for use in my worship band. But there was one big problem: the guitars were produced in extremely limited numbers.  In that pre-internet era, tracking one down was almost impossible. 

Then one day the phone rang.

It was one of the head executives at the guitar company.  He said, “I was told you’re looking for a Steve Morse guitar,” and he offered me a special way to get one.

Wait… what?! I didn’t even know what to say.  How was this even possible?

When I shared the news with my wife, she smiled with quiet satisfaction.  Weeks earlier, without telling me, she had written to Steve Morse himself, asking for his help. He answered her request and graciously made it all possible.

That whole amazing experience reminds me of intercessory prayer.

When we face seasons of uncertainty or struggle, other believers often bring our needs before the Lord without our knowledge. Parents, spouses, friends, and pastors faithfully intercede for us.

James 5:16 says, "The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results."  Paul also urges us to pray "on all occasions for all the Lord's people" (Ephesians 6:18).

Today, pray specifically for someone in need — perhaps someone who hasn't even asked you to pray. 

Another person’s breakthrough may begin with a prayer they never even knew had been offered.
