Trick-or-Treating at Willy Wonka’s

When I was a kid, Halloween meant only one thing to me: free candy! 

There was one house in our neighborhood that was almost too good to be true.  Just a couple blocks away from us lived the owner of a huge candy factory.  It was like having our own version of Willy Wonka right around the corner.

Every Halloween, my friends and I made a beeline to that house.  When the man opened the door, we could see boxes and boxes of fresh candy stacked behind him.  He smiled and doled it out by the handful — and didn’t mind if we came back again later.  

Honestly, I think he enjoyed that night even more than we did.  And looking back, I can’t help but see that as a small glimpse of what’s ahead for all believers.  

Scripture tells us that God has heavenly rewards prepared for those who faithfully serve Him (Revelation 22:12).  Just imagine hearing the words: “Well done, my good and faithful servant… Let’s celebrate together!” (Matthew 25:21).

Eternity with Christ would already be more than we could ever deserve.  Yet in His overflowing love, God has even more in store for us — beyond our wildest imagination.

Today, look for opportunities to serve the Lord. Imagine the joy we’ll share when He reveals what He’s prepared for us!
