13:46
For most people, 13 minutes and 46 seconds doesn’t mean much. But for GCM listeners, this amount of time is significant. It’s the exact length of each Talk for Growing Christians on the GCM website. My grandfather, Dave Reid, recorded them years ago, and they were specifically timed to fit into a radio broadcast schedule.
As a math guy, I now love making 13:46 fit into my schedule. My 20-minute commute to work? That could be one Talk plus a morning prayer. Going for a 45-minute run? Well, that’s three Talks, plus enough time to finish with a worship song.
Ephesians 5:15-16 encourages us to live wisely and “make the most of every opportunity.” That otherwise random number, 13:46, has helped me realize just how many opportunities there are to make my relationship with God a priority — even within a busy schedule! My brain has been rewired to make room for Him instead of settling for whatever time is left over.
It’s a simple but valuable lesson. I don’t need more hours in my day. I just need to make good use of the time I’ve been given. (Psalm 90:12)
