The News

The News

My mom always loved the news.  When I was growing up, the news would be on when I’d come downstairs for breakfast.  If she drove me to school, the news would be on the radio.  The tiny TV in the kitchen played the news while she cooked dinner.  I knew it was past my bedtime if I saw Nightline with Ted Koppel.

Unlike my mom, I’m not a big fan of the news.  Hearing news radio still reminds me of mornings when I didn’t really want to go to school.  But more than that, the news these days just feels heavy.  Headlines thrive on crises, conflict, and fear.  I don’t want those voices to shape my mood and mindset.

Jesus said, “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart.  And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.  So don’t be troubled or afraid.”  (John 14:27)

Every day, we choose which voice we'll trust.

The world amplifies bad news.
God proclaims good news.

The world highlights what's broken.
God reveals what He is restoring.

The world stirs fear.
God speaks peace.

The latest headlines may dominate the airwaves, but the greatest news never changes: Christ has come, He is with us, and He is making all things new.

Today, let His peace speak louder than the headlines.
