Same Story, Different Spin

Same Story, Different Spin
Some days I don’t dare look at the news. Actually, most days it’s a scary endeavor. The media spin is relentless. Flip between websites and you’ll find widely differing narratives — same events, totally different takes. Regardless of where you stand, the response is immediate and emotional: “I can’t believe they can report it that way!”
But hold on… selective storytelling isn’t limited to the news. It can show up in smaller, quieter ways, as we’re tempted to shape our own reality to make things feel acceptable.
That show we watched on Netflix... the website we visited... the language we used in that conversation... those thoughts we entertained...
At times, we rationalize or overlook things that we know fall short of God’s best for us. While those justifications may ease our conscience, God calls us to stop rewriting our story and follow His ways.
1 John 1:8 reminds us, “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.” But verse 9 assures us that “if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us.”
As you move through your day, ask God to show you any places where you’ve been editing the story. Then welcome His guidance, trusting His grace to lead you forward.
