Our Satellites, His Sun
Did you hear the FCC recently approved a satellite equipped with a giant mirror to reflect the sun’s light onto the dark side of Earth? The first satellite will light a 3-mile-wide area on Earth with the brightness of a full moon for five minutes. If successful, the company hopes to launch 50,000 such satellites.
When headlines increasingly sound like the plot of a science fiction movie, it comforts me to remember that God’s power and authority over the heavens dwarfs man’s achievements.
God has already demonstrated His control over the sun He created. As Joshua battled Israel’s enemies, God miraculously extended daylight until the battle was won. “The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and it did not set as on a normal day" as the Lord fought for Israel (Joshua 10:13-14). At Calvary, God caused the sun to stop shining as He prevailed in an even greater battle (Luke 23:44-45).
So if your heart feels a little clutch of fear at the havoc human beings might cause in their latest attempt to defy nature, remember Who is ultimately in control. "You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail" (Proverbs 19:21). The God who lovingly protects His people will not be caught off guard by anything happening on earth.
"Our God is in the heavens, and he does as he wishes." (Psalm 115:3)
