Have You Forgotten?
Was it all just a bad dream?
I woke with a start, unsettled... my mind racing in those odd moments between sleep and waking.
I dreamed that I kept losing my most treasured things. I’d take a favorite possession somewhere, get distracted, and accidentally leave it behind. It happened again and again, each time triggering a gut-wrenching panic and a frantic search for what I had lost.
As I lay awake in the darkness, a verse came to mind. I didn’t know the reference, but I knew it was something like: “Does a woman forget her jewelry, or a bride her wedding dress? Yet My people have forgotten Me” (Jeremiah 2:32).
Most of us guard our valuables closely. Our phones, wallets, or jewelry. But how often do we lose track of our most precious possession: our relationship with God?
We know God never leaves us. Yet amid the busyness of life, we can live as though He isn’t there — making decisions without seeking Him or receiving blessings without thanking Him.
We might turn the house upside down if we can’t find our phone, yet go through an entire day barely noticing that God has been crowded out of our thoughts.
Deuteronomy 6 gives us both a calling and a caution: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart” (v. 5), and “be careful not to forget the Lord” (v. 12).
Today, what distraction do you need to guard against so that God remains at the center of your attention?
