Girls Just Wanna Have Grace
I’m celebrating a milestone birthday this week and some of my girlfriends are taking me out to dinner. These women are one of God’s sweetest gifts to me. In 2019, we committed to pray together as a group every Wednesday for our children. For most of us, those prayers now extend to our grandchildren as well.
In seven years, we’ve prayed through heartbreak and hallelujahs. We have seen salvations, prodigals returning, addictions broken, restoration of relationships, the gift of believing spouses, financial provision for weddings, and healthy pregnancies and deliveries. We’ve seen God sustain our children through disappointments as He has carried us through our own. We may or may not be aging gracefully… but we’re undeniably experiencing God’s grace.
This is one of the hidden gifts of growing older: over time, the faithfulness of God becomes impossible to miss. A milestone birthday may make me flinch at how quickly the years have passed, but it also gives perspective. Looking back, I can see the steady faithfulness of God. I can see that goodness and mercy have followed me all the days of my life (Psalm 23:6).
“You have been with me from birth… Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me” (Psalm 71:6, 18).
