The Power Source

Last week I found myself up on the roof… in the snow… in the middle of winter.

Why, you ask?  Well, we have solar panels.  Not surprisingly, they work great — right up until it snows.  And with the latest storms and extreme cold, nearly 20 inches of accumulation would linger on the panels for weeks.

It’s an oddly helpless feeling.  The source of power is right there, but it’s blocked.  The only way to access it is to climb onto the roof and clear a way.

The whole scenario reminded me of Mark 2, where some men brought their paralyzed friend to Jesus.  The house was packed, and they couldn’t get in.  Jesus—the power source—was blocked.  So they climbed onto the roof, removed the barrier, and got their friend to Him.

What stood out wasn’t just their faith, but their willingness to act.  They took responsibility for what was within their control.  Mark tells us, “When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, ‘My child, your sins are forgiven’” (Mark 2:5).

God could have orchestrated this encounter and healing in any number of ways, but He chose to work through the determination of the man’s friends.

Snow doesn’t clear itself.  Crowds don’t part on their own.  And people rarely find their way to Jesus without someone willing to remove the obstacles.

Who in your life needs help getting to Jesus today?
