The Cutoff

Tomorrow is my birthday, 9/26. When I started school many years ago, the cutoff date for enrollment was the last day of September. Just five days separated me from having to wait another year to begin kindergarten.

It’s strange to think how a difference of less than a week affected my entire life. Being born five days later would have given me different classmates, friends, teachers, and a completely different set of experiences. In many ways, I wouldn’t be the same person I am today.

The world has many random deadlines and cutoffs that seem unavoidable. Sometimes we may feel like we’ve just missed out on something... a job, a great deal, a relationship. But Psalm 31:15 offers each of us this personal assurance: “My future is in Your hands.”

There are no near-misses in God’s plan. His timing is exact. His purpose is never delayed, and His grace has no expiration.

So today, I’m thankful not just for the day I was born, but for the assurance that I was born right on time. Nothing, not even that five-day difference, could separate me from the plan He had in mind for me all along.
