Stuck on the Same Track
When my boys were younger, they loved Thomas the Tank Engine. We had bins of toy trains and tracks, and a shelf full of VHS tapes that played on repeat.
If you’ve ever seen those old episodes, you know the plot. One engine does something selfish or shortsighted, and before long, the other engines feel slighted, impatient, and “cross” with each other.
They eventually work things out... until the next episode. Then the same conflicts roll back around on a different stretch of track.
It’s classic children’s television, but honestly, not far from reality.
How often does the same friction play out in our lives? Different day, different setting... same pattern. Whether it’s pride, resentment, impatience, or some other struggle, we’re like trains on rails, returning to the same familiar lines.
Those patterns do come with consequences. Proverbs 19:3 says, “People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord.” It’s easy for us to blame circumstances, people, or even God, all while choosing the same well-worn habits.
Could an old pattern be keeping you on the wrong track today? God is not only eager to forgive, He’s ready to transform. Through repentance and the Spirit’s help, old reactions can give way to new responses (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Christ didn't come to keep you on the same track — He came to build a new one.
