Rabbit Holes in the Sky

About 25 years ago, a friend and I were on night watch duty at a Christian camp in the mountains.  Suddenly, we saw an odd pulsing light pass low overhead.  It moved much faster than a plane, but there was no sound at all.

“Uhhhh... what was that?” I said, half stunned, half joking.

"Did we just see a UFO?”

To this day, I have no idea what that was.  And honestly, I don’t care.

But with the recent release of classified UFO footage, many people are fascinated by the subject. Social media is alive with grainy videos of... something. And Christians can get swept up in the intrigue too.

The Bible doesn’t forbid curiosity, but in 1 Timothy 1:3–6, Paul warns believers against “endless discussion of myths” that lead to meaningless speculation.  Instead, we are called to pursue “love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.”

Yes, there’s room for healthy discussion of the unknown, especially since some so-called “alien activity” could actually be demonic.  But it’s easy to disappear down rabbit holes while neglecting the things God has already made clear — prayer, Scripture, obedience, and the people right in front of us who need Christ.

We may never have answers to the mysteries of the universe, but God has already revealed what matters most. The enemy would love for believers to spend all their energy chasing the unexplained while drifting from the heart of the gospel.

Today, don’t let fascination with the unknown distract you from what God has already called you to pursue.
