Motion Detection

My family would tell you I’m a little obsessed with all the new options for outdoor security lighting these days. The solar spotlights with no wiring required.  Put them anywhere — they cost nothing to run and automatically turn on if something moves. What’s not to love?

But have you ever noticed how motion-detection lights can make you feel both secure and insecure at the same time?

When you’re inside late at night and suddenly those spotlights come on, you can’t help but wonder: What’s really out there?  Is it just a raccoon... or something truly threatening?

In the spiritual world, we’d like to think there’s nothing evil lurking anywhere near us.  But Scripture reminds us that there’s activity in the unseen world. 1 Peter 5:8 warns, “Stay alert!  Watch out for your great enemy, the devil.  He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”

This doesn’t mean we should live in constant fear.  It means we should stay watchful and prayerful about what may be lurking around our perimeter.

The good news is that God’s security light will expose and protect us from anything that tries to draw near.  We don’t have to be afraid of what’s moving in the dark, but we do need to stay close to His light (Psalm 27:1).
