Eyes Wide Open

Last week, I made the rookie mistake of going to the eye doctor without sunglasses. The exam went fine, but those dilation drops they always get you with... that's where things got interesting.

Stepping outside afterward was like walking into a solar flare. The sunlight was overwhelming. Even the pavement seemed to glow.

But in a strange paradox, my vision at that point was technically functioning at a higher level. The dilation allowed my eyes to take in more light, increasing my ability to see. But I couldn’t handle it.  I shielded my eyes and wished for less.

That moment reminded me of God's grace as He reveals His plans to us.

We often want complete clarity right now. We ask God to show us everything: His plan, His timing, the outcome.  But in His wisdom, He gives us only the light we need for the moment. Not because He’s holding back, but because too much at once would overwhelm us.

Jesus said in John 16:12, “There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now.”

If you're waiting for answers or longing for more understanding, take heart. God is not just preparing the next step. He's preparing you for it.

Trust His timing.  When the light comes, it won’t overwhelm you — it will guide you (Psalm 119:105).
