A friend who works in telecommunications told me his job is to approach churches offering to build or repair their steeples for free. Why? Because his company gets an elevated spot to hide a cellular antenna—while the church gets a new steeple at no cost.

My mind immediately raced in several different directions. Hidden antennas inside church steeples could illustrate any number of spiritual truths perfect for a Growing Daily devotional! How about the church is a city on a hill that cannot be hidden? (Matthew 5:14) Or a warning that sometimes new and vain philosophies creep in cloaked as the gospel? (2 Peter 2:1; Matthew 7:15)

But I settled on this: my friend told me the strategy works because churches are usually located in residential neighborhoods or older, central districts where zoning won’t permit new unsightly cell towers. So the steeples are uniquely positioned to get a clear signal where there are problematic gaps in cell coverage.

In the same way, God has uniquely positioned each of us exactly where He wants us to transmit His message. We live in neighborhoods, work in offices, and attend schools where His Word might otherwise be garbled or unheard. He gave us the message and now makes His appeal to the world through us (2 Corinthians 5:19-20). What an encouragement to keep broadcasting!
