practical application
questions 2. God was leading people and He was arranging circumstances in this chapter. Give some illustrations. 3. How did Rebekah show a sign of respect and a sign of modesty to Isaac? 4. How does Genesis 24 picture the future rapture of the church? 5. How does Genesis 24 picture the present state of Israel? 6. What are God’s future plans for the people of Israel? 7. What was the commitment that Rebekah made? answers 2. Abraham’s servant traveled a great distance, and as he prayed for a successful mission and that the Lord would lead him to Isaac’s future wife, the Lord answered in an amazing way. God’s angel invisibly guided him, and specific circumstances brought Rebekah into the picture. The family of Rebekah, as well as Rebekah saw the servant’s testimony as God’s plan. 3. She dismounted the camel as a sign of respect, and she veiled herself as a sign of modesty. 4. Rebekah walked by faith, called out of her world, looking for a husband; the church walks by faith, in but not of the world, waiting for her bridegroom, Christ. Isaac went out to meet Rebekah and bring her home; the Lord Jesus will come to bring His bride, the church, home. 5. Sarah gave birth to Isaac, but then she was laid aside after the sacrifice on Mount Moriah; the nation of Israel gave birth to their Messiah, but He was set aside. Sarah was no longer the focus of the Lord’s love and attention; while God has future plans for the people of Israel, they are now set aside. 6. Read Romans 11. 7. To return with Abraham’s servant to be the bride of Isaac. Perhaps there were some doubts, perhaps the road was rough, perhaps there were discouragements, but they didn’t deter her commitment.
discuss / consider 2. Do you see God’s leading and arrangement of circumstances today? How do you see Israel portrayed here?
